Thank you for visiting TeachWithJamaica.Org. We are a dedicated group of Texas teachers with a passion for education and seeing children succeed in life.
Teach With Jamaica was founded by Karla Hughes in 2006. She has been a summer missionary to Montego Bay, Jamaica for the past three years. Through daily interaction with area teachers and children she saw a need for additional educational support. Through discussions with the leadership of Jamaica Link Ministries (JLM) a partnership was formed to support Jamaican teachers by holding an annual educational conference. With the tremendous help of fellow Texas teachers who share the vision of supporting Jamaican educators, Teach With Jamaica was formed.
“Jamaica is a land of tremendous beauty and warmth. The people of this Caribbean island are quick to smile and quick to make visitors feel welcome. But, there is also tremendous need in this vacation paradise. Poverty abounds and most families
struggle to survive.” (JLM inc.)
We feel the best way to combat poverty is through education. Jamaica’s most valuable resources are it’s teachers and educational leaders. Educational needs as well as the children of today change on a continual basis and it is difficult for all educational institutions to keep up with these changes while providing superior education. It is our mission to work along side Jamaican teachers as well as educational and community leaders to ensure that no Jamaican child is left behind. It is our goal to empower Jamaican educators with additional teaching strategies and resources to enhance the quality educational system that is already in place.
Our mission is to collaborate with Jamaican educators and empower them with additional teaching strategies and resources to ensure that the children of Jamaica are receiving a superior education.
This will be facilitated through annual teaching conferences and continuous communication with Jamaican educators. Fund raising will be a part of this initiative to supply Jamaican educators with necessary teaching resources and materials.
